The stereotype of the wealthy Jew has been proved to be a dangerous one. It was used by the Nazi's to justify the initial actions of the reich and degenerated into the holocaust. What a forceful piece of writing. You obviously feel very strongly on the subject. This is a rallying cry. There is a poem by Charlotte Perkins Gilman called 'the obstacle'. Essentially the obstacle is as big as you make it. This essay seems to be recognising the size of the obstacle, which those women who have achieved high status, for example, Margaret Thatcher have refused to do. I do believe that women in many countries are seriously oppressed and that is a human rights issue, however much of what you describe is an equal rights issue. As a woman in a western democracy, with a senior job in a male orientated industry that obstacle is as big as I choose to view it, and in Gilmans words, I prefer to 'walk directly through him, as if he wasn't there'. In doing so I clear a path for the next woman.

When writing of a poet like Browning it is so easy to become as (I really cant think of the word as evasive doesnt quite capture it)as the author. The divorce itself may be easier to obtain, but the ramifications may go on for a long time, particularly when children are involved. The divorce rate is so high not just because it has become another 'disposable' .

This is such an interesting essay, the personal touch is extremely effective.I know that there is a problem with how the media portray the 'body beautiful', but there is also a tendency to blame the media entirely for these problems. If this was the case then everyone would suffer from this disease and this is patently not the case. There is a self-esteem issue here, which makes an individual doubt themselves to such an extent as not to view the media critically. The media may be a contributing factor, but it certainly cannot held to be a sole cause.

If a customer has trust in a company they will recommend it to others as well as return themselves. If they feel they have been treated shabbily or lied to they will tell every one of their friends who will then tell others who may consider using that company. His ability to ensure the reader identifies with the character in the mundanity of their character ensures we lkive the horror (and wonder at times) with them. Using just the one piece of writing from Stephen King has distorted this essay in some respects. If we look at other areas of his work, he also misxes a great deal of humour with his work. King seems to take a childlike glee in his stories, revelling in gory details, which he admits himself came from his early love of Ripleys believe it or not, whereas Poe takes a far more sombre stance. Both men suffered from addictions which affected their writing. King's particularly came out in such works as 'Misery' and 'The Shining'. To a great extent King can be said to be character led as opposed to Poe who was very much plot led. If other works had been consulted this would have been more balanced, but then for all I know you may have been told to only refer to the one work.
