FEV (forced expiratory volume) is the volume of air that can be exhaled after taking a deep breath and is an important measure of pulmonary (lung) function. FEV1 is the forced expiratory volume exhaled in the first second. Researchers surveyed 507 Australian children aged 8 -16 to determine whether they were smokers or non-smokers.
