CREATE YOUR OWN EXPERIMENT
hypothesis: If light causes photosyntheses in autotrophs, then the more light a plant gets, the more it will grow.
Materials: Six 4-inch pots
Two closed, clear, plastic containers
Seeds (grass, or pea plant works well)
soil
Two heat lamps
water
Procedure: Set six 4-inch pots out. Fill each pot 3/4 full. Put wine seed into the pot, about 1 1/2 to 2 inches below the surface. Set pots one through three into a closed, clear, plastic container as to keep a constant temperature. Do the same with pots four through six. Place these two containers away from on another, but in the same place. Place two tablespoons of water in each pot at noon everyday. Set a lamp by each container. Turn both lamps on at 7:00 a.m. each morning. At 3:00 p.m., turn the lamp that is heating pots four through six, off. Then at 7:00 p.m.,
turn the lamp off that is heating pots one through three. Do so everyday for five weeks. At the beginning of each week, measure how high the plants are.
Controls: The size of the pot
Amount of water fed
Keep all at same temperature
Use same soil
Conclusion: my hypothesis was correct. The plant with more sunlight grew, on average 66.6% taller.
