Fraternities and Sororities
To those going to a new college in a new place it can be a little bit intimidating. You are going to have to make new friends, find a new job, familiarize yourself with not only the campus but the city as well, all while enduring the stress of maintaining a high grade point average. For these reasons, a fraternity or a sorority may sound appealing. When you are pledged into a sorority or fraternity, you must first go through a hazing process. In many cases, this is completely humiliating and dangerous. In some cases, the hazing of a pledge has ultimately lead to their death. If you do make it past the hazing process and are accepted into the Greek system, you may be shocked about what really goes on. In a sorority, you are either directly or indirectly encouraged to take on an eating disorder, be promiscuous, cheat, drink, etc.
In a fraternity, you are encouraged to partake in sexual assault, take drugs, drink, be deceitful, etc. According to a study, between 1984 and 1993, a fraternity member was named as the perpetrator in ninety-three percent of all university related rapes, and more alleged rapes occur within the property lines of a fraternity or sorority house than any other area in the United States (excluding prisons and military bases). I guess the question that a person should ask themselves is whether or not it is worth the risk to be a part of the group. The Greek system gives vulnerable people a false sense of caring and family. They call each other a "sister" or "brother" when in actuality they are only out for them selves and could care less about what happens to you. Would you really want to be a connected to people...
This is an essay?
It's a great read for somebody changing schools but not sure if its what the site is for. Me thinks you are looking for points as there is no specific grade and no point....I might be wrong you might have been asked to write on Fraternities and Sororities, in which case its good for others who have to write about the same thing.
