I think television teaches us about life and the world around us. Though it can be violent at times. stories deal with real situations that people face each day. Television is our societes "story teller" rather than books. Parents for example, place their children in front of the televison all day so they can get thier work done. Another good example, is when I baby-sit. Most of the time the children want to watch television, and when I say no they get upset. I give them other options like read books or do a craft adn the don't want to because they will do something actually productive. I do agree with Gerbner's view on television. I really agree that television is a ritual. For instance, every week, I have to watch 2 television shows or I will go crazy until I see the next episode. I guess I do this to break away from reality and relax for once.
